Diane Monique Lhuillier, a cebuana, comes from one of the more prominent families in the Philippines. She studied in Lausanne, Switzerland and subsequently at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising), where she met the love of her life, Tom Bugbee. She began making a name for herself as the go-to designer for bridal gowns after she designed the gowns for her wedding entourage.
The name ‘Lhuillier’ to a common Filipino is synonymous to the name of a chain of pawnshops currently in business all over the country. To Hollywood A-listers, however, the name ‘Lhuillier’ means another beautiful celebrity is getting married wearing a sophisticated and breathtakingly feminine wedding gown created by a top-notch fashion designer. Lhuillier’s gowns bespeak fine taste and an eye for detail, but i think it’s the ‘surreal’ feel that she creates with her wedding gowns that turn celebrities’ heads.
Her high profile clients include: Christine Baumgartner (bride to Kevin Costner), Britney Spears (bride to Kevin Federline), Giuliana DePandi (bride to The Apprentice winner Bill Rancic), Ana Ortiz, Jewel, Pink and Alicia Silverstone. Looking at the wedding photos, one can clearly see why each one chose Monique Lhuillier to design their gowns. Each one looked like a princess, and the gowns complemented these celebrities styles perfectly. They’re still who they are, of course, but at the same time, they looked the role they chose for themselves at that very moment… lovely women who chose the men they will love forever.
Although I’ve seen her bridal creations on Hollywood personalities, nothing beats the gown she did for the ultimate fashion icon… BARBIE! Ok, maybe I’m a bit biased because I’m a big Barbie fan, but the wedding gown she created for her Barbie collection are so beautiful it takes the breath away.
Subsequently Lhuillier added evening wear to her line, and it wasn’t long before her evening gowns graced the red carpets in awards shows. Soon, she worked her magic on Fine Paper Collection and Royal Doulton collection of table top finery.
