Although most people prefer warm climates with lots of sun for summer vacations in Europe, not all locations will be warm and sunny. Just because it’s a vacation doesn’t mean you won’t be travelling to colder climates. Perhaps you have family in the northern most parts of Sweden such as in the sub-arctic town of Sweden, Kiruna, where you would need to pack for cool days and cold nights.
But what if you are making several stops in varying climates along the way? No matter what you wear on your summer vacation in Europe, make sure to pack safely so that your clothing will be safe from the elements and any damage due to airline, bus or train baggage handling. Charles Ford London offers the following tips on what to wear and how to pack for your summer vacation this year in Europe.
Sunglasses, Sunscreen and a Cover Up
If you plan on visiting any of the many lovely beaches along the Mediterranean, sunglasses and beach attire are a must. Make sure to bring polarised sunglasses to avoid damaging your eyes from the extremely bright glare reflecting off the water and if you plan to spend any time on the beach getting that beautiful bronze tan, a high SPF sunscreen is a definite must. You may also want to bring along a cover-up because days are certainly warm on the beach but evenings tend to get a bit chilly in many locations. Whether trying to stay warm when the sun goes down or to protect yourself from burning in the day, you’ll want a cover up, so put this high on your list of things to pack.
Comfortable Evening Attire
How can you go on vacation without sampling the many world-class restaurants Europe is so widely known for? Don’t forget to pack comfortable evening attire so that you can dine in some of Europe’s 5 star restaurants, but be comfortable because your evening probably won’t end there. After wining and dining you will surely want to traverse the club circuit wherever you stop and after a long day at the beach, a delicious meal and glass of wine, you certainly will want to be comfortable enough for a few hours on the dance floor in one of Europe’s world-renowned electronic night clubs.
Hope for the Best – Plan for the Worst
When you book your vacation it will probably be months prior to your departure date. Although you can ‘guess’ what the weather will be like, you never know when making travel arrangements that far in advance. It is suggested that you bring along at least one sweater for cool nights, outfits for warm days and a raincoat because summer often brings with it a good bit of rain in many areas of the continent. You can plan for all those sunny days on the beach but you just might have to go to plan B which would mean taking a day visiting shops in a rainstorm to beat all rainstorms.
Comfort Above All
Of course you know to pack comfortable walking shoes because you will be doing a good bit of that and don’t forget your favourite cosmetics and personal care items. There is no telling whether or not you will be able to find the brands you use at your destination, so it is better to be safe than sorry. The final tip on what to wear really depends on where you are going. Take the time to check out ‘average temperatures and climactic conditions’ for the time of year you will be travelling and pack accordingly.
By taking this extra bit of precaution you won’t be spending needless time shopping for things you forgot. A vacation in Europe can be the trip of a lifetime if you plan ahead on what to wear.
