Stop Sabotaging Your Skin: Tips and Tricks to Look Younger Far Longer
Looking young has never been more sought after. As we reach towards our 40s, most of us would give anything to have soft, young-looking skin once again. And, with a huge two-thirds of women using anti-aging products on a regular basis, the global skincare industry is estimated to be worth billions.
Whilst skincare products certainly have their proven benefits, there are actually many more natural tips and tricks you can start using to keep your skin looking younger. Prevention is often better than cure when it comes to the quality of our skin, and starting to take good care of it as young as possible is almost guaranteed to give better results in the long-run.
So, if you’ve never paid much attention to looking after your skin up until now, or simply want to ‘slow down’ the aging process and stay looking younger for longer, here’s some tips and tricks you can start using right away.
Drink more water
Whilst drinking lots of water is great for our health, most people don’t realize the significant benefits it can have for our skin too.
It’s recommended to drink eight glasses of water a day, but the majority of us don’t even manage half that amount. As well as flushing harmful toxins out of the body, drinking plenty of water provides your skin with constant hydration, keeping it looking fresh and supple whilst reducing the appearance of dry patches.
If you struggle with drinking plain water, try adding fruit slices for extra flavor. Having dry, dull-looking skin is almost guaranteed to make you look older, so surely drinking a little more water is a small price to pay for soft, glowing skin?
Don’t forget your neck
When using skincare products, it’s very common for people to forget to take care of the skin on their neck as well as their face. Whilst this probably isn’t intentional, your neck is just as prone to wrinkles and sagging as your face, so it’s essential you don’t neglect it!
Using a firming cream specifically designed for the neck will not only hydrate and moisturize your skin but will also tighten and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Wash your face daily
Most of us lead incredibly busy lives meaning that, at the end of a long day, the last thing you’ll likely want to do is spend time removing makeup and cleansing your face.
But, it’s been clinically proven that neglecting to cleanse your skin on a daily basis leads to a build-up of bacterial infections. This will not only cause dryness but could also lead to permanent scarring if breakouts are severe and frequent.
Washing your face at night literally takes two minutes and, when done daily, will prevent bacteria build-up and leave you with softer, clearer, younger-looking skin.
Eat antioxidant-rich foods
It’s no secret that eating healthily has huge benefits for our bodies, but can also benefit our skin too and keep it looking younger for longer.
Antioxidants have firming properties that will tighten the collagen in your skin. Wrinkles are primarily caused by the collagen in our skin losing its elasticity but, by including foods rich in antioxidants into your diet, you could prevent this from happening for longer.
Citrus fruits, dark berries, and passionfruit are all excellent choices, as well as olives and pears. Your blood vessels will be strengthened and your skin’s elasticity is likely to remain intact for longer than if you were to continuously eat unhealthily.
Face masks
Face masks are becoming increasingly popular. From clay masks to peel-off masks, there’s literally a face mask out there for everything skincare related.
But if you find being presented with a huge array of face masks to choose from quite intimidating and confusing, you can always try making one yourself! Making a concoction of 2 tbsp of cucumber juice, one egg white, a little lemon juice and vitamin E oil, apply to both your neck and face and wash off after 10 minutes. Not only will your skin feel refreshed and healthy, the vitamin E will tighten and produce a lifted effect.
Whilst we’d all like to look young forever, it’s simply not going to happen. But that doesn’t mean we have to give in to aging without trying to delay it first, and the above tips and tricks are a great place to start!
