People come in all shapes and sizes. This is why buying the right clothes is a task that requires a lot more than just grabbing something that looks nice from the racks. If you want to look good in the clothes you wear, make sure that you know which styles suit your body type. The key is to know what, exactly, is your body shape and how you can accentuate your assets and at the same time, keep people’s attention away from your less flattering features.
The Apple
If your upper body is heavier or bigger than your lower bod with a thick waist, then your body type is called Apple. Fourteen percent of women have this body shape. If you are one of them, you’d want to draw more attention to your slim legs and butt by wearing leggings, skirts, or other form-fitting pants. At the same time, try to draw attention away from your waist up—you can do this by wearing long sleeved tops and loose fitting blouses. If you’re looking for a boost of confidence, wear low neck tops to flaunt your bust.
The Pear
If you are donning a full hip that’s significantly larger than your chest area and thick thighs, then you’re one of the 20 percent of women who have the pear body shape. Opt for clothes that will draw attention away from your hefty hips and thighs by investing in printed bottoms. You may want to wear short skirts or dresses but that’s a big no-no for your body type!
The Rectangle
Just like a rectangle, your waist is virtually of the same width as your waist and hips. As you have almost no curves at the waist, you’d want to focus on creating the illusion of it. You can exaggerate some curves to avoid looking boyish or lanky by visually “pinching” it. Go for dresses and blouses that will add emphasis to your waist. Try out ruffles and frills to add volume, texture, and a dash of femininity to your figure. Loose clothes and baggy jeans are a no-no if you don’t want to look boyish.
The Hourglass
If you have equal bust and hip measurements plus a narrow waist, you’re one of the lucky hourglass types! Only a few women—8 percent—are blessed with this body shape. It’s generally considered the most ideal body type among women. Whatever you wear will suit you just fine but if you want to aim for killer looks, draw the attention to your narrow waist and emphasize your chest and butt area to make them look shapelier.
Generally, choosing the right clothes can be easy once you know which ones to look out for. The key to a great look, however, is your confidence and how you carry yourself among crowds. A good exterior is good, but if you add a great inner self as well, you’re sure to be a hit!
