The New York Fashion Week Spring 2018 is more exciting this year because of some fresh changes. Aside from their latest designs, fashion icons and directors came up with new ways to make the fashion week more memorable for their audiences. This year’s fashion week is riddled with a lot of first in seasonal debuts and non-traditional locations. Another highlight is the comeback of designer Tom Ford in the runways of New York. Stars like Anwar Hadid and Nicola Peltz sat front row at his fashion show. Here is a quick rundown on some of the firsts that we have seen in the New York Fashion Week Spring 2018.
The runway debut of Kaia Gerber was one of the anticipated events of the week. For those who don’t know it yet, Kaia is the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford. Another is the debut is that of Jean Paul Goude as the new artistic director of Desigual. This is the first Desigual fashion show under his direction. Goude delivered Desigual’s image of optimism and sense of individuality through bright colors and jungle inspired outfits. The theme for the show centered on symbolizing eclecticism and diversity.
Another first in this year’s New York Fashion Week is the choice of non-traditional locations for destination shows. A number of designers chose to put their runways on the Upper East Side of New York while others chose unlikely venues to showcase their designs. Alexander Wang literally brought fashion in the street at Bushwick, Brooklyn by having the runway staged on the street. Ralph Lauren chose to go farther with his show this year by hosting it at Bedford, New York. He transformed his garage into a runway thereby bringing fast cars and high fashion together in one impressive package. As for Narciso Rodriguez, he chose to ditch the catwalk and goes intimate by hosting press at his studio.
A couple of new names are also making some of their firsts in the New York Fashion Week Spring 2018. Brand names like Daisy, Lou Dallas, and Matthew Adams Dolan (MAD) were featured in the runways this year while known brands like Fenty X Puma impressed the audience by bringing dirt bikes in the runway while Marc Jacobs added drama to his show with turbans and opera music.
