Everyone likes to look good, regardless of their age, sex, size and budget and it is this desire
that drives the multi-billion pound fashion industry. But how do you stay up to date with the
latest fashion trends?
The obvious place to start is the high street, armed with your credit card of course just in case
you spot any ‘must have’ pieces to bring your wardrobe right up to date. High street stores offer
on-trend items at affordable prices. Their buyers follow the international catwalk shows of
designer fashion house collections very closely and the designs they select reflect what’s hot
each season.
If you are shopping on a budget a good place to find inspiration is on the television. There are a
number of shows featuring high street versus designer collections and they offer great tips on
how to turn low cost pieces into expensive looking items. All you need is a little imagination
and effort.
It is always well worth taking the hit on your charge card and investing in one or two expensive
designer pieces. These can be teamed with cheaper items from the high street to create an en
vogue outfit that looks deceptively pricey.
You can also recycle and update your wardrobe to make room for each new season’s pieces.
You can sell any items you feel are ‘last season’ and that you are unlikely to wear either on-line
or through one of the many ‘label exchange’ shops around the country.
Many fashionable trends are totally unsuitable for the workplace. Don’t despair, accessorise!
Investing in a few pieces of statement jewellery is a great way of glamming up your work
clothes and keeping on trend without going over the top.
There are plenty of glossy magazines devoted to following fashion, although they can be a little
bit pricey. Why not get together with a few fashionista friends and start a magazine ‘swop
shop’. This way, you get to peruse a wide variety of publications without having to buy them
all yourself and the money you save can be put towards more trendy items for your collection.
Dentists’ and doctors’ surgery waiting rooms are very often a great source of fashion magazines
and will provide a welcome distraction while you wait. Hairdressers too invariably have a good
selection of fashion magazines for you to read while you are being pampered.
Of course the internet is another invaluable tool to help you keep up with the emerging trends.

fresh from the very latest shows with reports and photographs of up and coming trends.
