Miami is one of those amazing cities where you stop and wonder how so many contradicting things work together to create such a unique atmosphere and vibe. This cosmopolitan city is a melting pot of beaches, cocktails, alligators, art deco style and distinct Latin American flavour.
Quintessential Miami
Sun, sand and surf: Images of the iconic beaches and palm trees are what usually spring to mind when people think of Miami and for good reason, the beaches are stunning. Get out and enjoy the sunshine – cycle, walk, skate, run, or even rollerblade along the Miami Beach boardwalk.
South Beach is where you’ll find the typical Miami Beach experience – the place to see and be seen. Located right across from many restaurants and the famous nightclubs, this area is busy, fun and there is always something going on – a fantastic spot to people-watch and soak up the sun.
If you’re after a quieter, more relaxed beach experience head to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne and those with children might like to try the family-friendly Crandon Park.
Embrace the night: They say when the sun sets in Miami the day is just beginning. The night scene in Miami is fierce and fun. Whether you’re looking for the glitz and glamour of the trendy South Beach clubs, a chic cocktail bar downtown or the more relaxed vibe of Coconut Grove there is something for everyone. Latin and hip-hop rule the live music scene – embrace these – but there are plenty of indie-rock and jazz bars to be found too.
Most importantly, sit back and relax, appreciate the beauty and enjoy the slightly eccentric side of Miami and you’ll have a fantastic time.
