People who love the sea and the sun can never get tired of visiting Santorini, Greece. Towns and cities built on top of a cliff provide tourists with a great view of both sea and sunset. The traditional culture seen all over the island is also something to look forward to in each visit. There are so many things for tourists to love in Santorini that one visit isn’t enough to explore all of them.
Let’s start off with Santorini’s capital Thira which actually sits on the rim of an extinct volcano. Sometimes the thought of being on a rim of a volcano, even if it’s extinct, can make one feel either thrilled or nervous. But these feelings can easily be replaced by joy and excitement at the sight of the lovely whitewashed houses and gorgeous sunsets of Santorini. While in Thira, you can visit the museums, galleries, and cathedrals in the city and feel like being transported back in time.
Don’t pass up the chance to explore the beaches of Santorini Greece. These are not the white sand beaches that people often rave about. Santorini’s beaches are lined with black volcanic sand that has its own appeal. For instance, Kamari Beach is said to be one of the best beaches in the Cyclades group of islands. It has been awarded with a blue flag which would make eco-friendly tourists very happy. Beach goers can enjoy swimming in its clear blue waters and enjoy the view with rugged mountains in the background. If you are a fan of water sports, then head off to the Perissa Beach to get your fill of water activities.
Another experience that you wouldn’t want to miss while in Santorini Greece is the vineyard visit. You can stay at Megalocori if you would like to try several wine tasting tours because it’s surrounded by vineyards. The Boutari Vineyard is known to produce some of the most popular wines in Greece and it’s just outside Megalocori.
Your Santorini experience will not be complete without its music festivals. The Santorini Jazz Festival in Kamari is usually held during the month of July. Music fans are treated to three days of jazz performances from Greek and international artists for 3 days. This coming September 13-17, 2017, classical music fans can look forward to the International Music Festival in Fira.
