It feels absolutely empowering when people come up to you and say that they just can’t put their finger on it, but something about you looks different- beautifully different.  Without revealing your secret, you simply offer them a smile, the kind which lifts at just one corner, hinting of secrecy.  That’s the kind of effect you get when you use a highlighter on your face.  But how exactly do you use a highlighter in order to achieve that desired effect?

Test some of the product on the back of your hand.  Blend it well.  If you see that your skin gets just a little bit of sheen, then you’ve hit the jackpot.  If it looks glittery, try a different shade.  The goal is to get a dewy look, as if you’ve just moisturized your skin.

The three main parts of the face where you should apply highlighter are the temples, cheekbones, the eyes and the Cupid’s bow- or the curve of your upper lip.

When applying it to your cheeks, remember to blend it on the highest point of your cheekbone and up towards the direction of your temple.

When using it to highlight your eyes, blend it under the eyebrow on the brow bone and into the inner crease of the eye. The lightness on the inner crease will help open up your eyes and the brow bone contouring will give you an instant brow-lift.

Be sure not to use a highlighter as a concealer, as the shimmering tones will only draw more attention to those parts of your face with pigmentation or redness.
